2005 Projects

COMPLETED: Jan. 2005 – Eight
“Prom Appropriate” Dance Sessions
were provided for Kendrick High School students. Melanie Malm, from
the University of Idaho taught the Saturday sessions. A total of 26
students learned to dance the two-step, foxtrot, western swing,
waltz, polka and hip hop. Mrs. Rush, a teacher at the high school,
made this project a reality by seeing a need and connecting with us
to make it happen.

Todd Green a Musician and
educator of 20 international instruments provided three concerts in
our valley. Both the Kendrick High School, and the Juliaetta
Elementary School students enjoyed a “show and tell” assembly
program, and a final evening community concert was combined with a
social event for the Juliaetta Community Library.
Refreshments and raffling of 25 donated artist items followed the
music a for library fund raising. Mrs. Gertje, the school's music
teacher, and the Friends of the Juliaetta Community Library helped
organize this day of events.

Local Tramway Production (DVD/)
–Marsha Schoeffler. This local informational production on Kendrick
and Juliaetta individually unique Tramway's was available for
viewing and purchase at the Kendrick Depot during the Locust Blossom
Art Show and Sale. It continues to be available through the K-J
Arts Committee.

COMPLETED: June 2005 -
Ed Corkill Memorial River Trail Enhancement
refurbished and installed four
original Northern Pacific railroad wayside markers to the16 signs
refurbished last year. A
5.3 mile part of the former Northern Pacific rail line called the
Palouse and Lewiston that
follows the Potlatch Creek is now the
Ed Corkill Memorial River Trail.
A paved bike/walking path runs
between and though the towns of Kendrick and Juliaetta.
This year's enhancements also included providing three waste
containers along the trail. Eight historical informational signs
depicting the impact the railroad had to our area's development were
installed last year. Pictures and facts on the interpretative signs
relate to the following: Northern Pacific Railroad's time line of
events on this rail line beginning in the late 1800's through 1997,
The Kendrick Tramway, The Juliaetta Tramway, Details of the1910
Kendrick Railroad Yard, The Juliaetta Depot, Interpretative
Information on Locomotive Whistle Signals and the explanation of
what the refurbished Northern Pacific Railroad wayside markers along
the trail means to train crews. Actual railroad rails were used to
support the signs. Northern Pacific Railroad buffs, Kendrick
High School Metal Workshop students, local historians and a local
rail line as well as grants made this project a reality.

Kendrick's Railroad Yard Water Tower
Footing Refurbishing and Preservation was provided. The
footings are over one hundred years old. They are located near the
City of Kendrick owned Kendrick Depot which was originally built in
the early 1900's. The 1890 Northern Pacific depot design was used
that was also used in many other locations throughout the
northwest. The 5.3 mile paved walking/bike path called the Ed
Corkill Memorial River Trail passes by these landmarks. This path
also has eight historical Northern Pacific Railroad informational
signs that have been provided and 20 restored Northern Pacific
railroad signs to view.

Juliaetta Centennial Park Bathroom Wall
Tile Project is located in the Juliaetta's Centennial
Park. Donated broken tiles, glass, and memorabilia were used
by Kendrick High School students, Kendrick-Juliaetta Arts Committee
members and other community members to create a mural depicting the
Hills of the Palouse. This work of art can be viewed from the
highway. The Art Club at Kendrick High School and Mrs. Fiske, the
art teacher also contributed to this project.
- COMPLETED: Oct. 8, 2005 -
Jamming on the Journey was a
community event commemorating Lewis and Clark's, 200 years ago,
near-by passing to the communities of Kendrick and Juliaetta. Two
historical presenters—Pierre Cruzatte and Diane Mallickan, two
children's crafts programs, 10 community vendors, and 7 exhibits
were enjoyed by many. This event provided a fund raising
opportunity for the vendors involved.

Projects

COMPLETED: January 26 –
29 2004 - Juliaetta Elementary School Drawing & Painting
Artist in Residency--57 Kindergarten through 6th
grade students and their teachers at Juliaetta Elementary School were provided
multiple class lessons in drawing and painting of Idaho native items by Helen
Grainger Wilson the Artist in Resident from Potlatch Idaho. The school has no specific
art education provided. The resulting art work was displayed in an Art
Show both at the school and during the 2004 Locust Blossom Festival in Kendrick.

2004 - Quilting
Club Workshop-“Making Chenille”--
Fourteen people interested in sewing and quilting from throughout the area
attended this day long workshop instruction to learn how to
make chenille. This technique is used to enhance both general sewing and
quilting projects. This event was co-sponsored by the local Piecemakers Too
Quilting Club.

COMPLETED:
March 25, 2004 - Come 4 Fun After School Art Project
--The local quilting club, Piecemakers Too,
introduced 15 local children to the fun of sewing by helping them make their own denim
tote/treasure bags during one afternoon session. Donated materials were used.
2003 Projects

COMPLETED: Friday Nov. 14, 2003 Vigilante Dessert / Theater
Production of the Clark and Lewis Show: -- Dessert was served to 89 people at the
Kendrick High School Gym. This group of actors from Montana again provided any
outstanding much enjoyed production. A Watercolor Art Show was also
provided showcasing the results of the just completed watercolor workshop
sessions.

May 2003 PCEI Puppets /Mask Making:--
Juliaetta Elementary School Class-6th grade, student artists participated in
the Locus Blossom Parade and the Locust Blossom Art Show with their individually
made creations.( PCEI=Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute)

COMPLETED: Oct. - Nov.
2003 Watercolor
Classes: --
6 once a week sessions provided a total of 26 people, of all degrees of watercolor
painting ability, an opportunity to increase their painting skills. An Art Show was provided at
the Vigilante Theatre event, the Wells Fargo Bank and the Juliaetta Community Library. The
class's work was viewed by 364 people. As a result of these sessions two
watercolor groups now gather to paint and encourage one another.
- Outdoor/Indoor
Sound System for K-J Community Use--$350.00 grant written and
received for this project.
- Living History Presentation
by Tanes Alan --in cooperation with grants from U of I and Latah
County Arts & Culture Committee this presentation was made available to
Kendrick High School students.
